In June 2019, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed legislation removing religious/non-medical vaccine exemptions for children attending school in new York State. Under the new law, children who currently have a religious/non-medical exemption must have at east the first dose of a vaccine in each of the required vaccine series within the first 14 days of school.
While the medical community plays no role in the enforcement of this legislation, our providers are dedicated to assisting families in understanding and meeting the new requirements. In light of the many phone calls our office has received from families looking for clarification, we will host a community education forum to address your concerns and answer any questions.
Please join us for About Vaccines and Religious Exemptions on Wednesday, July 24 from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. in the First Floor Classroom at Saratoga Hospital. Physicians will discus the details of the new legislation, including:
- Who the new law effects and how it will be enforced
- Which titers will be accepted, and how to order them
- Exemptions to immunizations, and why most patients will not qualify
- The catch-up vaccine schedule set by the CDC
- How to make appointments for vaccinations or to discuss options with your child's provider.
